Redesign of the contractual process and the T&Cs
2020
Our client, a renowned international gallery, was experiencing difficulties in the contractual process with its prestigious clients: when closing major acquisitions of famous works of art, the buyers did not fully understand the contractual process that followed the sales. Complex legal concepts of intellectual property rights or exhibition restrictions would appear quite late in the contractual process, leaving buyers frustrated with the gallery because they had not anticipated or understood these concepts in the first place.
Leveraging our expertise in redesigning complex legal and financial documents, our goal was to change the approach of the Statement's readers by presenting the group's performance in a user-centric manner.
While we were not able to interview clients directly, we gathered a lot of valuable information from the gallery's field staff, looking in detail at the buying process - which we discovered could be completed in just a few minutes! We also conducted extensive research on this very specific sector to ensure that we understood the financial and reputational implications of these major sales at international art fairs.

We were honored to leverage the gallery's incredible graphic design to draft a brand new GTC document, whose format could be adapted to the art fair context: either a brochure format that could be easily handed to the buyer at the time of the sale, or a digital format that could be easily accessed by simply scanning a QR code under the artwork on display. Working closely with our client's legal team, we completely reworded the T&Cs in clear and simple language, while retaining the full legal scope and ensuring that the tone used truly reflected the gallery's high standards.
